Buckingham Palace which is located in the City of Westminster is the principal workplace of the monarchy of the United Kingdom. The Palace is located between The Green Park, Hyde Park and St. James’s Park.  It is the Queen’s official London residence which is often used to receive and entertain guests on state, ceremonial and official occasions for the Royal Family. This lovely Buckingham palace has been a focus for the British people at times of national rejoicing.

Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence of Britain’s sovereigns since 1837. This was originally known as ‘Buckingham House’. It was a large townhouse for the Duke of Buckingham in 1705. It was acquired by King George III in 1761 as a private residence for Queen Charlotte. Therefore it was known as ‘The Queens House’. It was enlarged later. Finally this became the official Royal Palace of the British Monarch on the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837. She was the first monarch to reside at Buckingham Palace.

There are 775 rooms in Buckingham Palace. These include 19 Royal and guest bedrooms, 188 staff bedrooms, 92 office and 78 bathrooms. The Palace is furnished and decorated with priceless works of art which you cannot find some of them anywhere else in this world. The palace is very much working building and the centerpiece of Britain’s constitutional monarchy. It houses the offices of those who support the daily activities and all duties of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh and their immediate family.

The Ballroom is the largest room at Buckingham Palace. It was added by Queen Victoria in 1856 with a ball to celebrate the end of the Crimean War. It is generally used for ceremonies such as investitures and state banquets. Today this is used by The Queen for State banquets and other formal occasions such as annual Diplomatic Reception attended by about 1500 guests.

The Throne Room was used during Queen Victoria’s reign for Court gathering and as a dancing room. Today The Queen uses this room to receive loyal addresses on very special occasions like Jubilees. And also this room is used for formal wedding photographs.

The Queens Gallery is a permanent space which is dedicated to exhibitions of items from the Royal Collection, the wide ranging collection of art and treasures held in trust by The Queen for the nation.

The Victoria Memorial which is placed at the centre of Queens Gardens is another special monument. Many tourists take photographs near this monument. It is the golden statue of Queen Victoria which was sculptured by Sir Thomas Brock in 1911.

I was really lucky as I was able to visit Buckingham Palace recently. I was dreaming to visit this lovely palace from my childhood. It’s really an awesome place. I personally believe it was one of the most beautiful palaces which I have seen. The feeling I felt in front of the Buckingham palace cannot be explained in words. The Royal look of Buckingham Palace cannot be found anywhere else in this world as it is specific only to this lovely Palace.
