Goran Visnjic is a Croatian actor, born in the September 1972. He started to act in theatre from the early age when he was only nine years old. Until the age of 21, he managed a breakthrough on the basis of a successful casting in a Croatian production of Shakespeares Hamlet, in which he played the role of Laertes.
In the following years he won three times the Croatian award for best actor and the Orlando Award (kind of Croatian Tony Award). He is fluent speaker of English and French.
His best-known roles are those of Dr. Luka Kovac in the American television series ER – Emergency Room and the role of the lover of Nicole Kidman in Practical Magic. In the animated film Ice Age, Goran Visnjic gave voice to saber-tooth cat Soto.
Visnjic is also committed to animal welfare. He is currently a member of the International Fund for Animal Welfare, the Croatian animal protection group and the Ambassador of PETA in Eastern Europe.
Goran Visnjic is married to sculptor Ivana Vrdoljak since 1999. She is the daughter of film director Antun Vrdoljak and sister of the cameraman Vjekoslav Vrdoljak, with whom Visnjic worked, for example, in 2004 for the Croatian World War II drama “Duga mracna noc” (Long, dark night). The couple lives in Los Angeles. They adopted a little boy. Visnjic also has a daughter who emerged from a brief liaison.
During the summer of 2005, Visnjic has often been mentioned in the context of a candidate to play the role of James Bond in the upcoming Casino Royal. It is known to have passed an audition for the role, and ended up as a “finalist”, although in the end the role was assigned to the British actor Daniel Craig.
