Imran Khan divorce!
Pakistan’s foremost opposition leader and a retired cricket star Imran and his 42-year-old wife have divorced. Imran Khan is the chairman of Pakistans opposition party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Ms Khan was a BBC weather girl but went on to be a news anchor for AAJ TV.
The split brings an end to one of Pakistan’s high-profile marriages. 63 years old Imran Khan is a public figure and widely respected as one of Pakistans national heroes. Hed led the Pakistan cricket team that won the World Cup in 1992, and he is also known for charitable projects like fundraising to set up Pakistan’s biggest cancer hospital in Lahore. Before he wedded Ms. Khan in a small ceremony earlier this year, he was regarded as one of Pakistan’s most eligible bachelors.
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and spokesman Naeemul Haq said confirmed the divorce that came nearly ten months after Imran Khan tied the knot with Reham, the couples divorce comes with mutual consent in the midst of news that the former cricketer was not in support of her interference in political matters. Imrans marriage to Reham Khan was his 2nd. He was previously married to an English heiress, Jemima Goldsmith for nine years before the couple divorced in June 2004. Imran and Jemima have two boys from that union.
Announcing the divorce on Twitter, The PTI chairman confirmed their decision to file for divorce and stated that “This is a painful time for me, Reham and our families. I would request that everyone respect our privacy.” He also said he has the greatest respect for Rehams moral character & her passion to work for & help the underprivileged. Imran stated that the speculation about any financial settlements between the two of them was absolutely false and shameful. He finally added that people should shun speculation as there would be no further comments on the issue.
Imrans divorce from Reham did not come as a shock since reports of trouble in their marriage had been going around for a while as they were said to be living apart. Sources that knew of the difficulties in Imran and Rehams marriage said that the principal issue between the two was Rehams insistence on being involved in political party matters. The source also stated another reason might be Rehams dislike for his ex-wife Jemima, who still kept in touch with him because of their two sons, and pays fervent attention to his political career.
The marriage to Imran was also Rehams second one. Sometime in early August this year, Imran had declared that Reham will not be taking an active part in his party affairs; this came after attacks on Reham following the partys defeat in the polls. The PTI chairman and TV journalist Reham Khan had wedded in a simple ceremony that took place in January 2015, at Imrans Bani Gala home a hilltop villa near Islamabad. The union caused widespread surprise in Pakistan, where a close interest is taken on Imran Khan’s private life.
