Judge Scalia of the Supreme Court, found dead!
The race for the White House has just got more complicated with the death of the conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia at the age of 79. The Republicans have already announced their decision that only the next president should nominate Justice Scalia’s replacement, which means the voters will have an important decision to make in this.
Both Democrats and Republicans attach a lot of importance to the US Supreme Court and fight to get their nominees as Supreme Court judges. Any appointment in the US Supreme Court is for life, which is why it is so important for both parties to get someone of their own ideology in office.
Justice Scalia has been a hero for conservatives across America for espousing solid, Republican values as a Supreme Court judge for almost 30 years. He was found dead in his sleep at a resort ranch in Texas.
Justice Scalia’s death was deeply mourned by the other judges on the Supreme Court. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. said, “On behalf of the Court and retired Justices, I am saddened to report that our colleague Justice Antonin Scalia has passed away. He was an extraordinary individual and jurist, admired and treasured by his colleagues. His passing is a great loss to the Court and the country he so loyally served. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Maureen and his family.”
Justice Clarence Thomas, who has been described as an ideological opponent of Justice Scalia also expressed sadness at his death: “Justice Scalia was a good man; a wonderful husband who loved his wife and his family; a man of strong faith; a towering intellect; a legal giant; and a dear, dear friend. In every case, he gave it his all to get the broad principles and the small details right. Virginia and I are deeply saddened by his sudden and untimely death. Our prayers and love go out to Maureen and the Scalia family. It is hard to imagine the Court without my friend. I will miss him beyond all measure.”
As of now, because of his death, the Supreme Court is divided between four liberal and four conservative judges. The one who gets nominated next will push the balance in either the liberal cause or conservative cause. That’s why who replaces Justice Scalia and who gets to replace him is so important.
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who is currently second in the race for the Republican nomination said, “Two branches of government hang in the balance, not just the presidency, but the Supreme Court. If we get this wrong, if we nominate the wrong candidate, the Second Amendment, life, marriage, religious liberty, every one of those hangs in the balance.”
Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton was critical of the Republicans and their intentions. She said, “If any of us needed a reminder of just how important it is to take back the United States Senate and hold onto the White House, just look at the Supreme Court.”
