Oscars 2017: the worst rating in the last 9 years!
This year’s Oscars will be remembered for the major blooper at the end when the Best Picture award was given to the wrong nominee. The Oscar for the Best Picture is the most prestigious award at the ceremony, and the Academy of Motion Pictures still got that wrong.
That was the worst incident in the history of the Academy Awards. What makes it worse is that when that happened, most people laughed at Hollywood, mocked the stars and generally enjoyed the whole thing.
It was like Hollywood’s audience – the people they make all the movies for – was only interested in watching the rich and spoiled celebrities fail. They wanted to see them humiliated.
As President Trump later said in an interview, “I think they were focused so hard on politics that they didn’t get the act together at the end. It was a little sad. It took away from the glamour of the Oscars. It didn’t feel like a very glamorous evening. I’ve been to the Oscars. There was something very special missing, and then to end that way was sad.”
These are hard times for Hollywood. Their movies are losing money and losing audience share. The Oscars 2017 had the lowest rating of any Academy Awards function for 9 years. Indeed, according to a survey 60 percent of Americans could not a single Best Picture nominee. One would say that an overwhelming majority of them were not even aware of the movie that went on to win the Best Picture award, “Moonlight’.
The problem seems to be that Hollywood is losing its support amongst the core American audience that lies outside of California, New York and other liberal states. They have no connection with the average American anymore.
Hollywood does not have a single patriotic star, or someone who takes pride in being American like the stars of the 20th century, such as John Wayne, Doris Day, Jimmy Stewart and Gary Cooper. Most Hollywood celebrities are liberals and they hate, they just hate President Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
Not just that, they hate anyone who supports President Trump and the Republican Party. That would be 50 percent of the US population. So basically they hate 50 percent of their audience in the United States, and still expect them to watch their movies.
Hollywood liberals, it seems, have no support for the other point of view. Many actors, such as Michael Shannon, have actually wished death on people that support Trump. Others call Trump as Hitler and worse.
George Clooney, who is one of the biggest Hollywood stars and the ultimate Hollywood liberal, wears this politics on his sleeves and has openly been critical of not just President Trump, but also of his supporters. Amy Schumer calls Trump supporters as members of White supremacist groups such as KKK.
Everyone in Hollywood insists on sharing their political opinion although nobody really wants to know. It’s no surprise that Hollywood is suffering because of too much politics. Nobody watched actor Robert De Niro’s new film, “The Comedian” and it was a huge flop. They remembered what De Niro said about wanting to punch Trump in the face. So the audience reacted in the only way they can – by staying away! No wonder Hollywood is losing money.
