The war between Iraq and Iran!
We all have heard of the war that really destabilized both countries for quite some period of time and it also effected the relations of Arab countries with each other. This was Iran Iraq war which was started in September 1980 by Dictator Saddam Hussain, the war throughout, included missiles, bombs and chemical weapons. Iraq was limited to be defensive in its own right but it was Iran which the world saw as being not much effective to attack enemies and penetrate the targets in a short or long period of time. As a result, after hundreds of thousands of deaths included and billions of dollars being spent which might also be used as an aid to prevent hunger and poverty in the world, the war was stopped as a result of pressure from United Nations in 1988.
From September 22, 1980, to July 20, 1988, the war lasted and rough estimates included half a million and possibly twice as many troops were killed on both sides, at least half a million became permanent invalids, some 228 billion dollars were directly expended, and more than 400 billion dollars of damage (mostly to oil facilities, but also to cities) was inflicted. It was not only the power but was sect based that is why it lasted longer than either world war where countries were involved on both sides, IRAN was firm on its side and didn’t want the war to be ended when it was started, while Iraq was running out of sources while supported in other terms by Arab countries and was able to brought weapons in system for longer period of time.

Saddam Hussain the standing president also made some mistakes regarding the attack strategy of Iran while Iran was looking destabilized by the inner revolt aftermaths, it was also motivated based on this with the supreme leader gaining powers to fight against any country. Also Saddam choose the weak points to attack first as a result Irani forces got some time to mobilize, organize and strengthen themselves and fight in a more effective way
Also Iran was very limited in its offensive strike sources. Being ripped from U.S. supplies after all they were highly equipped with the of equipment courtesy of United states , Iran was weak enough to form strong border defense use cases and built strong attacking airstrike mechanisms. They could manage only massed infantry attacks supported by increasingly strong artillery fire. They based primarily on population difference like 40 million versus 13 million, But it only was effective when infantry attacks or surgical strikes were involved not the deep penetration across borders
Conserving forces to a long period of time, practicing war and estimating all needs to be in the war grounds, Iraq attacked on a mass scale in April 1988. The end came on July 18, when Iran accepted UN Resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, minor attacks also stopped after 20 July pact.
